Mandolin in Ensemble
is a program that pairs individual progress in daily private lessons, with workshops, coaching sessions, and daily participation in the American Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra. All mandolin family instruments are welcome, including mandola, mandocello, and octave mandolin. This program runs concurrently with “Guitar in Ensemble” and the two sessions will combine for workshops and to create the plucked-string orchestra, AMGO.

Your week will include…
Daily private lessons:
Each student will have a 30-minute private daily lesson, alternating sessions between Marilynn and fellow mandolin faculty, Ralph Costanza. Marilynn will focus on classical technique, including tremolo and position work, while Ralph will focus on chords, accompaniment, and beginner technique.

Daily afternoon workshops: Topics will include Brazilian Choro music, composition and arrangement, Baroque performance style, learning to play by ear, and other areas suggested by students.

Daily rehearsals with the American Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra: A main focus of the week, AMGO includes all students and faculty, and will explore a variety of musical styles. Parts will be distributed online a month ahead, to give time for preparation. There will also be daily coaching sessions for students with technical questions on how to play their parts.

A Concert of Music for Mandolin & Guitar: held on Thursday evening, will feature Marilynn, Ralph, “Guitar in Ensemble” instructor Robert N. Martel, and additional guest artists.

The Final Student Recital: on Friday, where AMGO will perform, along with students from other SummerKeys vocal and instrumental programs.

Limited Enrollment!
The program is currently open to 12 mandolin family instruments, to accommodate the number of private lessons in the schedule. Additional faculty may be added if enrollment warrants, but please… Sign up early to reserve your place!
