2023 Newsletter

2023 Newsletter

Dear SummerKeys Friends,

Almost all of the wonderful faculty you encountered this summer will return with the exception of Marilynn Mair, Frank Van Riper and Judy Goodman. Since Marilynn cannot return as an instructor, and enrollment in the mandolin program has steadily decreased, so this program will not be offered in 2024. Frank and Judy are retiring from their life in Lubec and are looking forward to a rest from their past frantic schedules.

We are happy to announce we will be welcoming Jennifer Stomberg (Larry Stomberg’s wife) to teach cello during the week of July 1. This was a recent change, so her bio is not on the website yet, but will be added shortly.

We’re also still waiting for a few other faculty members to confirm their scheduled dates, so let us know if you have any specific questions.

Ongoing, unavoidable expenses have dictated a price increase to $920 for most programs; however, we’ll again be offering an early bird payment option at the 2023 tuition rate of $825, but you must pay that amount in full (not just the deposit) before January 1st, 2024.

Some more faculty news:

–         Kent Hewitt will offer 4 weeks of jazz this summer.

–         We will now be offering flute all summer. Andrea Maurer is teaching the first three weeks of SummerKeys.

–         Lee Downing is returning to accompany for two weeks (July 8 & 15).

–         Alan Kryszak will be giving the second faculty concert of the season. This is normally the week Bruce would play but he would prefer to focus on his teaching next summer.

–         Rachel Clemente (Celtic harp) will be doing the second to last concert this year, with Andrea Hoag.

–         We’re opening slots for up to 20 young people (ages 12-18) to be able to attend with their families. We have had requests like this before, but this is the first year we will actively advertise it.

Our dear Helen Lelievre is retiring as registrar, after almost THIRTY YEARS with SummerKeys. But we’re pleased she’ll be around in an advisory capacity.

And on that same note, we’re relieved to say that Basil will take on those rough and delicate registration tasks!

A reminder that we’ll start taking those registrations on Sunday October 1st.

Feel free to be in touch if you have any questions and we’ll look forward to hearing from you!

Affectionate Regards,

Bruce
