SummerKeys 2021

Earlier this year, SummerKeys 2021 seemed not only a joyful prospect, but also one finally out of the previous shadow cast by the virus.

However, as we looked closer, the expanded spacing/timing we’d need (to remain safe for everybody) began to loom large in our scheduling plans.

Another factor was this season’s low enrollment: less than half of a typical summer, plus the fact that a few of those already enrolled recently withdrew, giving us the feeling that folks are not quite ready to come back.

We then started searching for the large spaces we’d need to supplement those we’ve normally used, all of which fell short (no restrooms, too expensive to be practical, too far away, etc.).

Doing a partial program with fewer students was another thought, abandoned because the finances wouldn’t work.

Then there is the problem that not everyone who needs to be in extended contact with students will have been vaccinated.

Unable to solve these spacing, timing vaccination issues, it now seems necessary, for the common good of the program, plus the Town of Lubec, to again remain closed this summer and re-open in 2022.

For those of you who have made deposits, there are a few options. We can refund your money by check, or if you paid through PayPal within the last 6 months, we can put the money directly back on your card. We can also hold your money over for 2022. This would be very helpful for us, as we still have a lot of bills to take care of, even when no one is here. If you’d like to be even more helpful, you could consider giving any deposits as a donation. While very much appreciated, these are not tax-deductible.

We’re very disappointed with the need to make this decision and are sorry for any inconvenience this causes with plans you have made.

We’ll look forward to seeing you in 2022!
