Contemporary Vocal Technique and Styles
For singers who want to elevate their skills in jazz, pop, R&B and other contemporary styles, this week-long workshop introduces participants to Somatic Voicework™ (SVW). SVW is a vocal technique that draws upon the best of traditional classical training along with the latest research in voice medicine and science. It emphasizes healthy vocal function while training for the specific demands of today’s popular music. In addition, we’ll focus on how to perform authentically within the context of popular musical genres, including a basic understanding of different rhythmic grooves, an introduction to improvisation, and how to work with accompanists using lead sheets. Music educators will learn new ways to engage their students and prepare them for auditions, choral and musical theater performances.
