The winner of the 2nd Prize in the 2020 Carinthia Jazz Award and a semi-finalist in the inaugural Michael Brecker IInternational Saxophone Competition in 2019, Nathan’s beautiful sound, expression and artistry is capturing the attention of listeners worldwide. After attending SUNY Purchase College and the New School he did his "graduate school" work playing lead alto with master Charli Persip's SUPERSOUND for 5 years while simultaneously playing in legend Hal Galper's "Youngbloods" quartet. Galper's 2017 Origin Records release Live at the COTA Jazz Festival was met with critical and popular acclaim.
Nathan performs in NYC and beyond with a variety of artists as well as with his own ensembles. He is a regular with Bobby Sanabria, The Birdland Big Band, Valery Ponomarev, George Gee, Stan Rubin and more. He maintains a vibrant private studio and is on the Winds Faculty at Brooklyn Music School. He formerly taught winds at Turtle Bay Music School until the school's closure in 2020.
His own studies with masters include Jon Gordon, David Binney, Hal Galper, Jaleel Shaw, Dave Liebman, Bob Mover, Charles McPherson, Barry Harris, Mark Shim, Jacob Sacks, Dan Weiss, Andrew Cyrille, Andy Milne and others have given him a unique approach to the instrument and music.
When not performing or teaching, Nathan can be found working in the library at The Juilliard School, or at home with his wife Maria and their two cats Johnny and Gigi.
