Peter Lewy

Peter Lewy has served as principle cellist and concerto soloist with several New York City metropolitan orchestras including the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, the Regina Opera Orchestra, the Bronx Symphony and the Greenwich Village Orchestra. He has also made numerous recital and chamber music appearances. In addition, Mr. Lewy has worked on stage and in the recording studio with hundreds of recording artists. His innovative uses of the cello in popular music recordings and performances have earned him critical acclaim in the New York Times and Variety Magazine. Mr. Lewy’s solo debut CD, Now and Then (Classical Jazz Records) features seven of his own works for solo cello as well as the full Bach Suite #1 in G Major for unaccompanied cello. His music has been heard on radio stations throughout the U.S., Europe and the far east. A caring and enthusiastic teacher, Mr. Lewy teaches cello at the United Nations International School and the Green Meadow Waldorf School and maintains an independent studio for students of all ages and levels. He was head of the string department at Camp Encore/Coda in Sweden, Maine for nine years, and founded the Cello Workshop at SummerKeys.
